Today I decided to ditch the brown bag and eat at my favourite sushi restaurant. I actually call my order in and then go pick it up, thus eliminating any waiting time. There was a woman (who I know from the office) standing in front of me. Her total order came to $4.57. She proceeded to pay with her debit card when the girl behind the counter informed her that there would be a 25 cent surcharge as the bill was less than five dollars. The woman didn’t like this so she looked at the menu and chose something else to add to her bill. Her lunch bill was now $8.47. It seems to me that paying the quarter would have been cheaper.
